Service Description: A service for those with cancer, friends and families, & volunteers. Provides a library of information, brochures, talks, relaxation sessions.

 

Sutherland Shire Carer Support Service

Service Description: Provides information, referrals, support groups, training, emotional support and advocacy for carers. This includes a ‘Carers Corner’ with a Quarterly newsletter informing carers of impending events and activities. The Service also raises public awareness of carers’ issues, and supplies Support Groups for carers of people of Greek and Chinese backgrounds, Support Groups for carers of people with dementia and for carers of young people with a disability. In addition, the service lends out books, videos and DVDs about dementia, disability and caring.

Sutherland Shire Family Services

Service Description: This is a support service for struggling families with children. It provides assistance for families in crisis, information, referrals, relationship & family counselling, budget advice, legal advice, practical and emotional support, courses on parenting issues, including self confidence, self development, and women’s issues and access to an Outreach family worker service. Mutual support groups meet regularly. Domestic Violence Survivors Group also available.

Service Description: The HACC Development Officer assists Home and Community Care (HACC) service providers & users through a range of community development activities. Can provide guest speakers.

Sutherland Shire Heart Support Group

Service Description: This group meets regularly to provide support, information and encouragement for people with heart disease and their families. It includes a walking group at Coopers Park Engadine & at Cronulla weekly.

Sutherland Shire Information & Community Service

Service Description: This generalist community service offers information, support, advocacy and referral. Some emergency relief is available, however, referral is required. The most used services include the free counselling service, Tax Help, photocopying and referrals to other organisations. in addition, public toilets are available and JP (Justice of the Peace) accessible on request.

Service Description: The Sutherland Shire Family Planning Service provides education for women and/or couples using natural methods of conception, as well as general knowledge of fertility and specific knowledge of how to avoid or achieve pregnancy. Appointments by arrangement.

Sutherland Shire Suicide Safety Network Inc.

Service Description: The Network aims to formalise links between organisations and individuals involved in reducing the incidence of suicide in the Sutherland Shire. It also helps to ensure that information and ideas are shared, and a coordinated approach to suicide prevention is adopted. In addition, the service assists with strengthening local service provision and collates and maintains data relating to incidence of suicide in the Shire in order to act as source of referral for individuals and families experiencing bereavement. The service also works to run annual conferences for service providers and community information nights throughout the year. Please note: this is not a direct service provider for people in crisis.
